January 2010 Keep West Baton Rouge Beautiful recently received a $10,000 grant from Anheuser-Busch. Mockler Beverage of Baton Rouge, a wholesaler of Anheuser-Busch, is partnering with KWBRB to purchase recycle containers for the parish parks and implement a new program called 'Recycle to Go', which will allow residents to use free portable recycle cans for events. News from Keep Louisiana Beautiful Keep Louisiana Beautiful was invited to hold its January Board Meeting at the Coca-Cola's new state-of-the-art facility in Baton Rouge. A tour of the bottling plant followed the meeting.
November 2009 Keep Louisiana Beautiful Fall E-Newsletter News from Keep Natchitoches Beautiful Keep Natchitoches Beautiful celebrated America Recycles Day by partnering with Goodwill and hosting Operation Hard Drive. According to Goodwill officials, over 500 units of electronic items were collected for recycling purposes.
In early November, Author Cindy Foust read her new book, "Be Smart...Do YouR Part!" to first-graders at the Louisiana Governor's Mansion to launch the project. The book, which targets elementary students, tells the story of a boy who becomes interested in serving his community and decides to do so by helping to preserve the environment. The book was initiated by the Monroe Rotary Club and sponsored in part by a 2009 grant from KLB.
October 2009 Keep Louisiana Beautiful recently donated supplies to help the Third Bi-Annual Village de l'Est Community Cleanup in New Orleans East. Over 41 bags of trash, five tires and one mattress were picked up by volunteers along Michoud, Dwyer and Alcee Fortier Boulevards. The bi-annual event is one of many community building events that bring together different religious, ethnic and cultural entities in the neighborhood.
September 2009 News from Keep Slidell Beautiful Click here to read about Keep Slidell Beautiful's upcoming replant of iris seedlings in Heritage Park. The effort will result in Slidell's Fleur-de-Lis Iris Garden. August 2009 News from Keep Ouachita Beautiful Click here to read about Keep Ouachita Beautiful's successful Ouachita River Water Sweep. The effort resulted in 8.28 tons of trash being pulled from the river and its banks by 170 volunteers. July 2009 News from Keep Natchitoches Beautiful Keep Natchitoches Beautiful is proud to unveil the following new programs:
Natchitoches Police Officer Sgt. Ross Desadier's new Historic District patrol car is an environmentally friendly electric vehicle. Sgt. Desadier's new mode of transportation will be used to assist with patrol of downtown events, festivals and parades. Natchitoches merchants or Historic District homeowners encouraged to call Sgt. Desadier at 318-471-5702 with any downtown concerns.
Recycle trash bins are ready for distribution on the Northwestern State University campus, where recycling begins in August. Each department will receive receptacles that will be collected by Ward's Waste. Recycling initiatives at NSU are being made possible through a partnership with the city and university. News from Keep Slidell Beautiful Keep Slidell Beautiful (KSB) is partnering with the Slidell Youth Football Association to promote a 'Tobacco-Free, Litter-Free" fall season. KSB has provided additional trash cans and cigarette receptacles, which will be placed at the front of the park located at 3158 Terrace Avenue. The football park has been designated as a tobacco and litter-free zone. All cigarettes must be extinguished before entering. Keep Louisiana Beautiful Summer E-Newsletter News from Keep Slidell Beautiful Keep Slidell Beautiful is offering $100 grants to local neighborhoods looking to beautify their areas by starting 'Neighborhood Green Teams'. KSB plans to work with these pro-active subdivisions by helping to plan a cleanup day and provide equipment such as gloves, trash bags, pick up poles and safety vests. The $100 grant is available to each participating neighborhood to use in a beautification project for the entrance into the subdivision. News from Keep West Baton Rouge Beautiful Keep West Baton Rouge Beautiful recently introduced its new mascot, "No Litter Louie." Louie will be spreading KLB's message of litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling and beautification in WBR Parish schools. June 2009 News from Keep Morehouse Beautiful Litter Free Larry, made possible by a KLB Grant to Keep Morehouse Beautiful, continues to grow in popularity. This summer, he has been promoting litter awareness and environmental respect to children participating in local bible schools.
May 2009 Keep Louisiana Beautiful May E-Newsletter (Click to view) Keep Louisiana Beatiful held a luncheon for all Louisiana Legislative spouses on Wednesday, May 6, at Hilltop Arboretum in Baton Rouge. KLB representatives familiarized attendees with the organization’s litter prevention and waste reduction education programs. The spouses were also encouraged to engage with their local KLB affiliates or help start one.
Since Hilltop represents the pristine natural environment that KLB promotes for all of Louisiana, a donation was made for a tree to be planted in honor of the spouses.
April 2009 Keep Louisiana Beautiful April E-Newsletter (Click to view) News from Keep Morehouse Beautiful This year, the city of Bastrop is holding “Cleanest Alderman District” awards program. Pictured below are judges and team captains. The event is part of Keep America Beautiful’s 2009 Great American Cleanup. The winning district’s volunteers will be treated to a picnic by the Keep Morehouse Beautiful organization.
Keep Vinton Beautiful Receives KAB Certification Mayor Kenny Stinson receives the certificate of certification for Keep Vinton Beautiful from KAB’s Cecile Carson at the recent Vinton city council meeting. Pictured with Mayor Stinson and Carson are members of the Keep Vinton Beautiful committee and KLB Executive Director Leigh Harris. Entergy Promotes 'Geaux Green' Campaign Entergy Louisiana and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana is now offering electricity generated from environmentally-friendly renewable energy producers in the state. Power from these green providers – offered in blocks – goes into the electric system as part of the total power mix, which is shared by Entergy Louisiana and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana customers. March 2009 St. Charles Parish Trash Bash on YouTube (Click to view) Footage from the St. Charles Parish Trash Bash is being aired on their local government cable television channel and is available on YouTube. St. Charles Parish was the recipient of a 2009 KLB Community Grant. Keep Louisiana Beautiful March E-Newsletter (Click to view) February 27, 2009 Keep Slidell Beautiful Front Street Mulch Project Keep Slidell Beautiful recently worked on the Front Street Mulch Project with volunteers from YouthBuild LTC Region 1. The group met at Heratige Park on the morning of the event and mulched the trees on Front Street. KSB provided mulching supplies and a pizza lunch for all volunteers. YouthBuild LTC Region 1 will be working with KSB and the City of Slidell each Friday through June 2009.
